1. Patent

In 2023, the number of authorized invention patents in China was 921,000, the number of authorized utility model patents was 2.09 million, and the number of authorized industrial design patents was 499,100. Among them, there were 4.015 million valid domestic invention patents (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan). The effective number of utility model patents was 12.129 million, and the effective number of industrial design patents was 3.234 million.

In 2023, CNIPA accepted 73,800 PCT international patent applications, and there were 68,800 applied by domestic applicants.

From January to November 2023, a total of 1,666 international design applications were applied by Chinese applicants, and by the end of December 2023, a total of 1,974 international design applications were disclosed designating China.

2. Trademark

In 2023, the number of trademark applications in China was 7.188 million; the number of trademark registrations was 4.383 million. As of the end of December 2023, there were 46.146 million valid registered trademarks.

In 2023, CNIPA received 6,196 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants.

3. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design

In 2023, in China, there were 13 geographical indication products for production, 201 geographical indications as collective trademarks and certification marks for registration, and 5,662 market entities with special signs of geographical indications for use approved. As of the end of December 2023, a total of 2,508 geographical indication products have been approved, a total of 7,277 geographical indication registrations have been approved as collective trademarks and certification marks, and 26,398 market entities have been approved to use geographical indication special signs.

In 2023, there were 12,503 applications for registration of integrated circuit layout designs in China; 11,316 were issued.
