Global Innovation Index 2025 released, China ranks top 10 for the first time

On September 16, 2025, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released the "Global Innovation Index 2025" report (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). China's ranking has risen to 10th place globally, marking its first entry into the global top 10. China firmly leads among the 36 upper-middle-income economies and has climbed 25 positions since 2013. All the above demonstrate the significant achievements of China's implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, accelerating the construction of a strong technological nation and a powerhouse in intellectual property.

According to the Report, China has long maintained a prominent position in innovation outputs, ranking 5th globally in 2025, up two places from 2024. In the meantime, China ranks 19th globally in innovation input, up four places from 2024.

First, China ranks first globally in multiple intellectual property-related sub-indicators; second, China ranks first globally in the number of innovation clusters; third, China remains second globally in brand value.

Additionally, the Report indicates that China's exports of high-tech products and its position in global value chains continue to improve, with outstanding performance particularly in AI, semiconductors, and green technologies.
