In 2020, 530 thousand invention patents were granted in China.  As of the end of 2020, the number of effective invention patents in China was 3.058 million.  In 2020, 2.377 million utility model patents were granted in China.  As of the end of 2020, the effective number of utility model patents was 6.948 million.

In 2020, 732,000 design patents were granted in China.  As of the end of 2020, the effective number of design patents was 2.187 million.  In 2020, the CNIPA received 72,000 PCT international patent applications, of which 67,000 were domestic.  In 2020, our RID received 54,700 reexamination requests and closed 48,000 cases.  6,200 invalidation requests were accepted, and 7,100 cases were closed.

2. Trademark

In 2020, the number of registered trademarks in China was 5.761 million.  As of the end of 2020, the number of valid registered trademarks was 30.173 million.  In 2020, China had 134,000 trademark opposition applications and completed 149,000 opposition cases.

In 2020, our office received 7,553 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants. In 2020, our office received 367,000 applications for various trademark review cases and closed 358,000 cases.

3. Layout design of geographical indication and integrated circuit

In 2020, our bureau accepted 10 applications for the protection of geographical indication products, approved the protection of 6 geographical indication products, our bureau approved 1,052 companies using special signs for geographical indication products, and approved 765 registrations of geographical indication trademarks.  

By the end of 2020, a total of 2,391 geographical indication products have been approved, 9,479 companies using special signs have been approved, and 6,085 geographical indication trademarks have been registered.  In 2020, there were 14,375 applications for registration of layout designs of integrated circuits in China, and 11,727 certificates were issued.
